Not only Boat Shows but Golf Show Too

Hello everyone. In a blog from Garmin today they announced some new products for the golf industry. Of course a couple of new Approaches and a tool to analyze your swing called TruSwing all are being announced at the PGA Show in Orlando, Florida. this weekend. One of these products really peak my interest, I am not sure that a Golf GPS no matter how well it is built is the watch I want to wear and one that is clicked on and off the belt as needed seems to be a hassle to me. The TruSwing though is something that I think will work for any golfer who wants feedback on what his swing looks like and how and where he is striking the ball, great feedback for the golfer who is really interested in improving his game. Well time is about to run out on Scott and Brian they will be amping up for Atlantic City Boat Show next week early leaving on Tuesday morning and returning Sunday at the close of the show. It will really be tough on Scott who is a big fan of the Carolina Panthers who are in the Super Bowl Sunday. They have to be back at work Monday morning to enter orders and leave for the Miami Boat Show on Tuesday morning early. It is a real grind for these young men. Sorry to say but I will not be in to write to you tomorrow, I have a paint nick I neglected on the roof of my car that requires now a complete painting over two days. I will be back on Monday to let you know how things are going.

Busy weekend for football

Hi everyone, I hope your team won this weekend in the football playoffs. I know that the people who are native to our area are all extremely excited about their Panthers advancing to the Super Bowl. I wish I could share their excitement but I will always be a die hard Giant fan. My wife is a little upset that the Patriots lost to the Broncos but she will get over it I am sure. I feel bad for Scott our VP of Sales who has to work the Atlantic City Boat Show the day of the Super Bowl and drive back to Ocean Isle Beach because he is a true fan of the Panthers and has been since their beginning. It would be great if he and his Father Tom (the old Jar Head) could sit together and watch the game together. Well things here are starting to ramp up for our busiest two weeks of the year starting next week on Wednesday when we lose Scott and Brian for the Atlantic City Boat Show only to return on Monday and head out on Tuesday for Miami. Our showroom disappears in cases to be part of our display in both shows. I will have more on the boat shows later but I did want to get to the fishing tournament that just concluded at Lake Okeechobee in Florida that Garmin sponsored pro Jason Lambert won first place and credited his equipment especially the GT52HW-TM CHIRP transducer he used. Looking for great things this year for the Garmin Pros.

Training Day

Good morning everyone, as part of the staff development here at The GPS Store our sales people all reported to work an hour early to learn about Down and SideView as well as CHIRP this morning from our Garmin Rep. It was interesting to me as transducer performance was explained and what transducers do what functions. Also there is more coming that will be announced at the Miami Boat show. The training was geared to their new Striker line of fishfinders and the new EchoMap CHIRP combination units of which the 7 and 9 inch models will support the Panoptix transducers. Well I am off until Monday so those of you in the path of winter storm Jonas, I hope you stocked up with food and drinks enough to last for a few days because it looks like a real bad one. Stay safe and I will be back on Monday.

Weather is on the way north of us we hope.

Well my weekend with my Son is cancelled because of the winter storm that will be blowing through Virginia and up the coast this weekend. Some predictions have as much as 24″ of snow in some parts of Virginia. Now where I am from in Northern NY they want this snow for their tourist trade on the ski areas and snowmobile trails. It is past the middle of January and some areas still have no snow, which would be like steady rain here all spring and summer for golfers and beach goers. I was reviewing rebates this morning during the lull between our boar shows and there are still some great ones from Furuno and Standard Horizon available. Kind of quiet here today, but that is normal for this time of year. I will be back with you tomorrow.

We are in a lull at the store currently.

Hi everyone I hope you had a great weekend watching football and your teams won. If they didn’t at least they all played well and every game turned out close even if it didn’t start that way. I can tell you that 99% of the people here in the Carolina’s is over the top excited about the Panthers and Cam Newton, and I am happy to see them have something to route for this year. We are still in “Boat Show” mode here at the store getting everything ready for the Atlantic City Show in just a little over 2 weeks and recovering from the NYC show shipping orders that were placed there. I see the weather is cold in a lot of places across the country and tornadoes in the Sarasota area of Florida that have claimed at least two lives. Our prayers here at the GPS Store go out to those people affected. We still have a few of the Garmin GPSMAP 6212 plotters left and at a great price $1499.00 so if you are looking at replacing your chartplotter or adding another one to your Garmin network take a look it might be what you need.

Catching our breath for the next couple of weeks

Here in Ocean isle Beach at The GPS Store we are taking some time to get our boat show guys some time to spend with their families before the real grind of Atlantic City and Miami back to back, and then when they get back in the office it is another couple of weeks getting caught up. Glad I am here and able to fill in if need be. Maybe I will get a shot on the sales floor in the near future and maybe get a chance to speak with some of my old friends who started as customers. I am told from time to time that some of these people check on me when they call. I am humbled when I hear it from my co-workers. We had a great show in NYC and hope that the people in the City had a good time there as well. I am busy getting the Hook line of fishfinders and combination units written up and Noelle is busy putting them up on the website. We will be done very soon so take a look for them if you freshwater guys and gals are looking for Lowrance quality for you bass or walleye boat. Well until next week take care of yourselves and I will be back on Monday.

NYC Boat Show recap

I am back after a 5 day hiatus and would like to once again thank everyone who took the time to stop by our booth at the NYC Boat Show whether you made a purchase or not we enjoy meeting with people and answering questions to help you with your boat. Preliminary numbers show an increase over last year which keeps us excited to come back every year. Scott and Brian are tired but already gearing up for Atlantic City in three weeks. After looking at Garmin’s blog for the last couple of days it looks like they have a concerted effort to make their products do more through Apps which is the wave of the future. From monitoring different parameters to a more pleasing appearance on the watch face. I am busy doing write ups for the new line of car GPS from Garmin and Lowrance’s line of HOOK fishfinders I hope to have everything up for your review shortly. Glad to be back and I will be writing to you tomorrow.

NYC Boat Show in full swing now

I am here in sunny Ocean Isle Beach, NC while Scott and Brian (two southern boys) are in NYC for the boat show. I know that they do not like the cold, they just don’t know how to dress for the cold. The wind though the streets of New York can be brutal even for an experienced Yankee but for Brain and Scott it is almost lethal. Well at least they get a reprieve as warmer weather is coming for the weekend. Opening day and the boys tell me that although traffic seemed to be down they were glad to see friends from previous years and take more orders than last year. It seems to auger well for the rest of the show. Here at the store we are struggling through without two of our sales force, but Ash, Char, and Nick have stepped up along with help from Noelle, and Jamie; and of course they haven’t pulled out the “big gun” me but i will be taking phone calls next week and back on the sales floor. I have to say I am really looking forward to it and hope I get to hear from some of my old friends and also make new ones. Well I will be back on Wednesday to write to you again.

We are off and running for 2016

Well it never really stays slow here at The GPS Store we are still taking orders for some of our Christmas Specials as customers want to use up those gift cards. Scott and Brian are really ready for boat show season to start in 2016 and will be on the way to NYC and the Javits Center that starts on Wednesday. If you are in or around the NYC area stop in to our booth and say hi, we are in booth # 959. I know that Scott and Brian would be happy to see you. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year and is looking forward to 2016 but I know that not everyone is. Maybe this will be the year that turns it around for those who need it. I will be back on Wednesday with what is happening at the show and what is new. I know that some of the manufacturers have technology just waiting to be released.
